Small Business (SB)

SBA defines a SB concern as one that is independently owned and operated, is organized for profit, and is not dominant in its field. Depending on the industry, size standard eligibility is based on the average number of employees for the preceding twelve months or on sales volume averaged over a three-year period. Size Standards are based on the company’s North American Industrial Classification Code (NAICS).

Women-owned small business (WOSB)

A WOSB concern is defined as at least 51 percent owned by one or more women, or in the case of publicly owned businesses, at least 51 percent of the stock is owned by one or more women, and the management and daily operations of which are controlled by one or more women.

8(a)

A firm owned and operated by socially and economically disadvantaged individuals and eligible to receive federal contracts under the Small Business Administration’s 8(a) Business Development Program.

Small Disadvantaged Business (SDB)

A small business concern that is at least 51% unconditionally owned by one or more individuals who is both socially and economically disadvantaged or, in the case of a publicly owned business, has at least 51% of its stock unconditionally owned by one or more socially and economically disadvantaged individuals and has its management and daily business controlled by at least one socially and economically disadvantaged individual. Must be certified by the Small Business Administration. This certification also pertains to a small business concern that is at l east 51% unconditionally owned by an economically disadvantaged Indian tribe or Native Hawaiian organization or, in the case of a publicly owned business, has at least 51% of its stock unconditionally owned by one of these entities, has its management and daily business controlled by members of an economically disadvantaged Indian tribe or Native Hawaiian organization, and meets the requirements of 13 CFR part 124.

HUBZone (HUB)

Applicants must meet the Small Business size standards set forth by the Small Business Administration and have their principal offices located within a HUBZone, which includes lands on federally recognized Indian reservations. Businesses must be owned and controlled U.S. citizens, and at least 35% of its employees must reside in a HUBZone.

Service-disabled veteran-owned (SDVOSB)

The term "small business concern owned and controlled by service-disabled veterans" shall mean a SB concern which is at least 51 percent owned by one or more service-disabled veterans; or, in the case of any publicly owned business, at least 51 percent of the stock of which is owned by one or more service-disabled veterans; and, whose management and daily business operations are controlled by one or more service-disabled veterans or, in the case of a veteran with permanent and severe disability, the spouse or permanent care-giver of such veteran.

Veteran-owned (VOSB)

The term "small business concern owned and controlled by veterans" shall mean a small business concern which is at least 51 percent owned by one or more eligible veterans; or, in the case of any publicly owned business, at least 51 percent of the stock of which is owned by one or more veterans; and, whose management and daily business operations are controlled by such veterans.
