AMEC's small business program was established in order to continually seek and expand subcontracting opportunities for small businesses (SB), small disadvantaged businesses (SDB), women-owned small businesses (WOSB), historically underutilized businesses (HUB), veteran-owned small businesses (VOSB) and service-disabled veteran-owned small businesses. Through the establishment of strategic partnerships with all categories of SB, AMEC is able to enhance our capabilities, serve our customers better and meet or exceed our contractual obligations.
AMEC's procurement procedures ensure that SB are given the maximum opportunity to participate in our subcontracts. All procurement activities are conducted in accordance with the highest standard of business ethics. Project Managers and Procurement Staff regularly review the AMEC SB subcontracting plan and are held accountable for meeting or exceeding our SB goals. AMEC's Small Business Liaison Officer (SBLO) continuously monitors and evaluates our SB performance, ensures that qualified SB are invited to compete for subcontracts and is responsible for reporting the results to management and customers.
Since 1998, AMEC has participated in many Federal Agencies’ Mentor Protégé Programs.
We have served as a mentor in the Air Force, Army, Navy, GSA and SBA programs
and have assisted eleven small businesses in increasing their revenues, staff
size and contract backlog. We have also provided assistance with financial audits,
human resource support, legal assistance, technical assistance and shared office
space. In 2002, 2004, 2006 and 2008, AMEC was awarded a Nunn-Perry award from
DoD. This prestigious award honors mentor-protege teams that have excelled in
the areas of quality, technical assistance, return on investment and protege
development.
In December 2009, AMEC had its second Small Business Subcontracting Program Compliance Review by the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) and passed with remarkable results. Based on AMEC’s demonstrated success in assisting, promoting, and utilizing small business concerns, SBA gave our overall program the highest rating of “Outstanding.” SBA found that AMEC has an excellent program in subcontracting diversity management and that AMEC’s program could be used as a teaching model for other large businesses with the same subcontracting plan requirements.
On 2007 and 2011, AMEC was awarded the highly coveted Dwight D. Eisenhower Award for Excellence in the Construction/Services category from the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA). The national award, named for the president under whose administration the SBA was founded, honors large federal prime contractors that have excelled in their utilization of small businesses as suppliers and subcontractors.
AMEC's commitment to SB can be easily measured through our active participation in many SB events. AMEC regularly sponsors, attends and exhibits at local, regional and national SB trade fairs and procurement conferences.
