In Afghanistan and Iraq, AMEC’s procurement process emphasizes the use of local subcontractors to capitalize on local knowledge, optimize schedule acceleration, and ensure overall best value to our clients. AMEC has established a network of more than 200 pre-qualified Iraqi and Afghani subcontractors and a workforce of more than 5000 local workers.

This approach promotes economic benefits to the local economy in the short term and enhancement of national economic independence in the long term. Historically, this approach has enabled us to develop skilled trades people and supervisors, a strong safety culture, and the planning and execution skills necessary to facilitate economic stability in country.

AMEC strongly believes in being a good citizen, by developing Afghani and Iraqi companies’ capabilities to work efficiently in their own country. This belief is evidenced in our programs to provide technical assistance to Afghani and Iraqi entities by utilizing Afghani and Iraqi subcontractors, laborers, craftsmen, managers, and as suppliers of goods and materials to the project.
